The Broad Range of Muscle Fitness

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Saturday 16 August 2008

While it is wonderful that more and more people have become ‘turned on’ to the world of exercise and physical fitness, it is somewhat distressing that most people pigeonhole their concept of what a physical workout program actually entails. In other words, people look at exercise as a means of serving two ends: increasing muscle mass and reducing body. Now, this is an accurate assessment of what occurs when a proper exercise regiment is followed. It is also a noble goal to achieve. However, there is far more to exercising that just those two areas. One area that is neglected far too often is the area of muscle fitness.

The Most Common Areas of Muscle Fitness

Usually when people think of muscle fitness they center on cosmetic appearances. This is the commonly perceived ‘contest physique’ that most people adore. There is nothing wrong with such adoration, but it is somewhat limited in scope. That is to say, there are a number of functional muscle fitness goals that could be attained in addition to the cosmetic ones.

Muscle Fitness and Strength

Just because someone looks strong does not mean the person really is strong. In order to increase strength, one needs to work on a series of exercises that will increase the functionality of the muscle. Isolation exercises such as leg raises, for example, will do nothing in terms of increasing strength. Squats of heavy weight for the duration of low reps, however, will increase strength.

Muscle Fitness and Rehab

Since leg raises were negatively singled out in the previous section, it would be important to mention the proper role of leg raises. While there are a number of uses for isolation exercises such as leg raises, they are commonly used to rehabilitation of injuries. So, an exercise such as a leg raise will strengthen a torn knee.

Muscle Fitness and Endurance

Have you ever felt your arms or legs get tired? This occurs when the muscles have reached the limits of their muscular endurance capacity. For athletes who take part in sports such as rowing, for example, muscle fatigue can set in rather quickly. The way to eliminate such muscle fatigue would be to perform a series of high rep body weight exercises greatly increase. A rower would probably wish to perform a high number of pushups so as to increase endurance in the chest, shoulders and arms. Of course, this does not mean lower body exercises should be ignored as they would aid as well.

Muscle and Fitness: Taking Care of Your Body

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Saturday 16 August 2008

If you are one of those women who look flabby, you should start exercise and building up muscles in the tight place. According to fitness experts, muscle and fitness goes together so that means that you will look and feel healthier if you have more muscles in your body. Note that strong muscles in the right places could help prevent certain types of injuries so start a muscle and fitness program now.

What To Do

To get you started in the right direction, you need to come up with a good muscle and fitness plan. You don’t really have to enroll in a muscle and fitness program if you do not want to. You can always follow your own work-out plan. To make sure that can follow your muscle and fitness plan thoroughly; come up with a reasonable day to day plan. You also need to keep your gym stuff together in one place so that you will not spend so much time trying to find your things. When it comes to your diet, make a one week menu for your meals so that you will not have any problems.

You need to make exercise a habit. Once you start a muscle and fitness program, do not just quit in the middle of it. You need to continue exercising even when you already reached your idea body size and weight. Always remember that you tend to lose your muscles when you no longer exercise, so do not stop. Have a strong self-discipline. Bear in mind that people who do not have self-discipline will not achieve much in life. Besides, being self-disciplined will not only help you reach your goal, it will also keep you out of trouble especially when it comes to your health.

The best way to stay faithful to your muscle and fitness program is to constantly motivate your self. Keep your eyes on your goal and give yourself some rewards when you reach your goal. For instance, you may promise yourself a threat to the spa if you can reach your goal. Always remember that rewards are good motivators so do not hesitate to pamper yourself every now and then when you achieve something. Moreover, you can motivate yourself to continue your muscle and fitness program by reminding yourself always of the consequences of not exercising. Make a short list of the bad things that could happen to you if you do not exercise. However, try not to scare yourself to death about these things.

Aging Gracefully Thanks To Mens Fitness

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Saturday 16 August 2008

If you are interested in mens fitness so that you can lose weight or increase muscle mass, you should know that this is going to get harder as you get older.  Of course, you may not even realize just how important the other parts of mens fitness are until you have grandchildren.  It is then that you realize just how exhausted you are after spending time with your grandchildren, which is not a good feeling.

Dieting And Mens Fitness

Once you retire you may find yourself putting on some extra weight.  Of course, if you are like most people, then you do not like to be on a diet.  In fact, you may actually really like to eat.  You may even be one of those people who eats whenever they are stressed.  For this reason, if you are going to start a mens fitness routine, you are going to not only have to be accountable to yourself, but also to someone else as well.

Of course, a good mens fitness routine does not mean that you have to go on a diet.  You can simply begin watching what you eat and cutting back on the junk food.  Another thing that is important is to only eat when you are hungry.  Plus eating more fruits and vegetables is also helpful.

A Good Mens Fitness Routine

If you are going to begin exercising, it is really important to find a good workout that you like.  Such things as biking and walking can be very enjoyable and yet help you to stay healthy at the same time. Of course, when it is hot out or the weather includes either rain or snow, you are not going to be able to do these activities very easily.  For this reason, if you plan to go biking or walking regularly as part of your mens fitness routine, then you should invest in a good stationary cycling unit or a place where you can walk indoors.

Conclusion

You may find that a mens fitness software package will help you to keep track of your health when it comes to what you eat and how you workout.  In this way you will know what changes you are going to have to make in order to be able to keep up with your grandchildren.  Of course, all of this is going to take some time and require a commitment on your end but in the end it will be well worth your sacrifice.

Achieving Lifetime Fitness

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Friday 15 August 2008

Achieving lifetime fitness can only happen if an exercise plan can be adjusted to suit any stage of life.  Physical fitness and health should be strived for throughout our lives and is not limited to youth.  As we get older, the need for physical fitness is even more important to protect against injury or disease.  It is vital that we recall that our bodies our not able for the same level of exercise throughout our lives, however.  Maintaining an overly strenuous exercise regime in later life could deteriorate our health and prevent lifetime fitness from being achieved.  Maintaining a regular exercise and a healthy diet as part of a lifetime effort is the best way to achieve lifetime fitness as it is far more influential on our bodies to continue the efforts rather than stop and start like so many of us do when we grow unmotivated.  Sometimes the easiest way to remain physically fit is to join a health club or gym.

Lifetime Fitness Programs

The Lifetime Fitness gyms and programs are some of the most well known health club chains in the United States.  They claim to cater to the needs of the whole family and there are a variety of membership options available.  For a lot of members, the incentives to join include the fact that some of the membership schemes enable them to use the facilities in a number of different clubs.  Each Lifetime Fitness health club can have variations in the available facilities; which is why members might enjoy the option to travel.  The different memberships available cater to the individual as well as corporate groups.

A number of important services may also entice members to the Life Fitness programs and gyms such as child center, life spa and salon, running club and personal trainers.  Nutrition coaching and the weight loss group sessions are all part of the attractive services available.  Lifetime Fitness clubs are more expensive variations on normal gyms but they are a private business and failure to stick to the rules could result in a ban.  Personal training is extremely popular as many people prefer an individualized plan that suits them alone instead of participating in a generic scheme.  There are one-on-one programs, group programs and specialty programs available in the personal training services offered by Lifetime Fitness.  The programs on offer are designed to change a person’s approach to their lifestyle and long term fitness training rather than being a shortcut to fit into a smaller dress size for a special occasion.

The Simplicity of a Home Fitness Workout

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Tuesday 12 August 2008

There are a number of misconceptions present when the subject of home fitness is discussed. These misconceptions are based on an inaccurate perception of the differences between working out at home vs. working out in a commercial gym. As one would surmise, there is a belief that working out in a commercial gym is vastly superior to working out at home. This, honestly, is true unless an individual has the capital and space available to equip a home with professional level workout equipment. (The key to the commercial gym’s superiority is the size and scope of its equipment) However, there is something that must be noted about home fitness: it is still a viable way to get in shape regardless of the perceived inferiority in comparison to commercial gym fitness workouts.

Essentially, the misconception is present is that a commercial gym workout is effective, but a home exercise program will be ineffective. This is a false notion on a number of levels not the least of which being a complete disregard for human biology. If you undertake a home fitness program and stick to it, then you will get in shape. There will be certain disadvantages in regards to working out at home vs. working out in a gym, but working out at home will hardly be a waste of time.

A Sample Home Fitness Program

Here is about as basic of a home fitness program as one could possible devise. If a person were to wake up every morning and jump rope for twenty minutes, perform a reasonable set of push-ups, sit ups and body squats, then the person is taking part in an excellent exercise program that builds muscle and burns fat. Does the program sound too simple? While is may be simple, it performs a number of functions: the rope jumping is a great cardio workout and the body weight exercises aid in the development of mass. If this seems to simple to be true…very well…purchase a small set of dumbbells or even a weight bench and add progressive weight resistance exercises to the home fitness mix.

Again, a home fitness workout is designed to be performed at relative ease while maintaining a program effective enough to yield “gains.” While commonly mocked for not being at the same level as a commercial gym workout, home workout programs are still effective and, as such, remain highly recommended for anyone looking to get in shape.

Types and Uses of Fitness Equipment

Posted under Uncategorized, fitness by Vivienne on Tuesday 12 August 2008

Fitness equipment is basically anything that is used, or can be used, to get in or stay in good physical condition. Fitness equipment may be something that you have at home or something that is found in a professional gym. This type of equipment can be used for aerobic exercise or strength training, depending on the equipment involved and how it is being used.

Types of Fitness Equipment

There are many different types of fitness equipment. Fitness equipment can range from something easily recognized as such to something as simple (and overlooked) as a jump rope. Fitness equipment can include:

Treadmills – Treadmills are one common form of fitness equipment. These may be found in gyms as well as in homes. Treadmills are generally used to exercise aerobically. Treadmills are sometimes thought of as a staple in gym equipment as walking and running (when advisable for a person’s current physical condition) are good basic exercises to help get one’s whole body in shape.

Stationary Bikes – Stationary bikes may be found in both gyms and households, although due to the cost of many newer models they are more easily accessed in a gym. Stationary bikes are mainly used for aerobic training, although they can conceivably be used to strength-train as well.

Weight Machines – Weight-lifting machines can be found in just about any size and shape. They are used to exercise nearly every muscle in the body, even ones you never knew you had! The general focus of weight machines is strength-training, although they can be used in certain ways to help increase aerobic fitness as well. Gyms generally have many different types of weight machines. These machines are generally set up in such a way that they are relatively safe and easy to use. Weight machines can also be purchased for your home, but these home gyms do not necessarily have all of the features included in gym equipment and are not as specialized.

Free Weights – Free weights are usually used for the same general purpose as weight machines, namely strength training. Free weights are many times preferred to weight machines by individuals that are trying to gain muscle or ‘bulk-up’. Free weights can be more difficult to use and dangerous than weight machines when they are not used properly. A spotter should always be used when a person is working out with free weights. Free weights are common in gyms and in households, although the diversity will be greater in a gym.

Undergoing an Extreme Fitness Regime

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Wednesday 16 July 2008

There are occasions in life when the need for an extreme fitness regime or program can become paramount. The usual reasons for people to turn to an extreme workout in order to achieve physical fitness usually involve wanting to fit into a certain outfit or look their best for a special occasion. An extreme workout achieves physical fitness by pushing the body to the limit on a regular basis during a certain period of time. These methods are not designed for a long term fitness plan but are more pointed towards an intensive period of training to reach a certain goal. Actors may undergo an extreme fitness regime to get into shape for an acting role that calls for it while new mothers are often known to do the same to get back into their pre-pregnancy shape as soon as possible.

Serious amounts of hard training call for regular warm ups to avoid injury as well as understanding the limits of the body. Pushing too hard is a bad idea as it can result in serious injury so extreme forms of fitness workouts are usually performed under the supervision and influence of a trainer. Personal fitness trainers are often hired to create an individualized, extreme work out session for their clients. Strict methods such as these can achieve a greater level of fitness in a quicker than normal time and although it can be hard to get motivate for these sessions, the results tend to be more than worth it. Problems only arise when these workouts are performed against medical advice or when they are taken too far.

When Striving for Physical Fitness Gets Too Extreme

We all know the benefits of reaching a state of top health and physical fitness but at times, our efforts can get a bit too extreme. Too many of us strive to be something we are not, and the goals we set can be unrealistic especially when based on the appearance of celebrities in particular. Teenagers who are dissatisfied with their own appearance can become obsessed with how a too skinny celebrity personality looks and impractically set themselves the goal of looking just like them. Developing bodies do not benefit from this type of pressure. Mothers who try to lose weight quickly in the weeks following delivery of their baby are following extreme and unhealthy standards of fitness and could potentially damage their bodies in the long term.

It is cases like these and many others that become extreme forms of achieving physical fitness. Bodies are pushed too far, too soon could end up permanently damaged as they are unable to handle the stress. There is a thing as too much exercise especially when it comes to high intensity routines that may put excess pressure on the joints. It is important not to take the quest for physical fitness to extreme levels as it could be a regrettable choice in the future.

The Key To Successful Exercise Fitness

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Saturday 28 June 2008

It can sometimes seem very difficult to fit exercise into our everyday lives. With work commitments, family commitments, shopping and all those other tasks that need to be seen to, finding the time to indulge in a regular form of exercise can be tricky.

Exercise fitness can seem hard to achieve, but it’s actually often much easier than you might think. The key to making exercise fitness a part of your life is to sit down and look carefully at your life and commitments, to see where exercise can be fitted in.

Make Sure You Can Meet The Number One Rule

This is paramount if you are to succeed at improving your exercise fitness levels. The type of exercise you select to help you get fit should be something you genuinely enjoy doing.

Don’t get a membership at the gym just because they’re offering a fifty per cent discount if you know you hate going on the various machines they have there. Don’t go swimming if you had a bad experience as a kid, just because you’ve heard it’s a good all round form of exercise.

The easiest form of exercise fitness for you will be the activity you most enjoy doing. If it’s jogging, go and buy some decent footwear and get going. If it’s tennis, go and buy a new tennis racket and dream of winning Wimbledon. Whatever gets you up and out, that will be the activity that will improve your exercise fitness levels more than any other.

Exercise, Fitness And Realistic Goals

So you’re sitting down and deciding how you can integrate exercise into your life on a regular basis. It’s important to be realistic about your prospects at this stage, as setting yourself an unrealistic timetable will only lead to frustration when you find you cannot keep up with your new goals.

If your life is busy with work, consider whether you could fit an exercise plan into your lunch hours. If you enjoy jogging, perhaps you could pack a change of clothes into a rucksack and jog to and from work twice a week?

Sometimes it can be easier fitting exercise in around your work day like this than trying to rely on exercising during the evenings. Once you get in from a long tiring day, it’s too easy to slump down in front of the television and never get up and out again.

So you see, exercise, fitness and planning all go hand in hand. To make the most of them, you need to have realistic goals and an activity you love to do.

Which Fitness Program Best Fits Your needs?

Posted under fitness by Vivienne on Thursday 8 May 2008

There are many different fitness programs to choose from, once you decide to workout. First you have fitness programs that involve weights, both free weights and fixed weights, such as universal exercise machines. There are other types of fitness programs such as aerobic exercise, which includes Taebo, and step aerobics. You might also like to try some cardio workouts such as running, swimming, or hiking. The thing is that without a set program and schedule it is just working out and not a fitness program. Here are some things you need to do to make a great program that best fits you. First Step: Finding The Right Fitness Program For you The first step in finding the right program for you is realizing what type of physical shape you are in. Once you have determined your own physical abilities, you can then sit down and plan out a fitness program to meet your needs. Second you must determine how much time you have available. Third you must choose which type of fitness program you want to do. Second Step: Planning Your Schedule Now that you know what type of fitness program you want to be involved in, and know the amount of time you have available, you must write down your fitness program schedule. If you fail to write down your fitness program schedule you will fail to adhere to your own program plan. Typically a workout session starts out with least 15 minutes of exercise per day alternating between 2 or 3 exercises per session. Every couple of weeks you should increase either the intensity of your workouts or the length of your workout sessions. Third Step: Knowing When To Increase Your Workout Session The best time to increase your workouts is when you are finding them to be easier then the day before. Fitness programs do not work unless you push yourself. A sure sign that your workout is becoming too easy is if you find yourself worrying more about other things than the workout. If you are working hard you will not be able to think about anything else because you are pushing yourself for the best results possible. Should You Hire A Personal Trainer? Only hire a personal trainer if you have no self-motivation. A lot of people would workout only if they have someone plan a fitness program for them and push them by getting on their back everyday and making them do the workouts. The biggest draw back in hiring a personal trainer is the cost. Many of them can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars a week just to keep you fit. I say if you have the money go for it, it’s easier, less to think of, and more motivating.
