Innovative Approach To A Jester Costume Creates A Unique Inexpensive Costume

Posted under costume party by Vivienne on Friday 7 December 2007

If you are looking for a bright, colorful costume for your son or daughter, that is easy to make and affordable, than the jester costumer is the one for you.

The Jester’s Hat Is A Fundamental Part Of The Overall Jester Costume

The most important part of the jester costume is the jester’s hat, known for its oddball shape and bells upon it. A wonderful and quick way to make a jesters hat is to use 12 x 18 inch pieces of EZ felt in contrasting colors, black and white, red and blue, green and purple, whatever color combination that your child likes. Buy contrasting colored cloth pom-poms or jingle bells in silver or gold. Remember that a jester’s costume should be very bright and colorful or done in stark contrasts, the idea is that the jester’s costume will make a visual statement in color and geometric shapes.

Measure your child’s head and add one inch to the total measurement. When this is done, divide by 2 and cut one piece of the EZ felt in each color to match the measurement. Blue the felt pieces together along the inside of the hat, fit the hat to your child’s head and glue the second side, making sure to glue both sides on the inside of the hat. When the hat had dried, cut triangles around the top and glue pom-pom or sew jingle bells to each of the triangle points at the top of the hat.

The Body Portion Of The Jester Costume Must Be Color, Bright and Geometric

Geometric shapes can be cut from felt making extended diamond shapes that are then sew together in a color kaleidoscope of colors. This colorful diamonds can be sewn in a multiple layer to add dimension while offsetting them to form a continual collar.

Once the collar is complete, sew tiny jingle bells to the end of the diamonds and at the points that the top layer meet; this will assist in holding the triangles down against the body and will make tiny tinkling sounds as your child walks. This collar can be tacked down to a colorful sweatshirt that can then be used as the base of the costume.

If the sweatshirt is long enough, use it as a dress for your child, adding colorful tights like the type with the different colored bands going up and down the leg in alternating colors.

No jester costume is complete without a jester’s wand. Take long lengths of colorful ribbon and sew or tie tiny jingle bells to one end; glue or tie the other ends of the ribbons to a colorfully painted dowel. Glue a colorfully painted wooden ball to the end of the dowel to finish the look.

Easy Costume Ideas Make Halloween Parties Easy To Prepare For

Posted under costume party by Vivienne on Friday 14 September 2007

Halloween is a great time of year when people can dress up pretend to be someone or something else.  For many, this is the one holiday each year that they really let go and become someone new and exciting.  For many, it is an acquired taste, tentatively trying a safe costume idea for their first party and with each subsequent party becoming more and more daring in their costume ideas and choices.

There are many very easy costume ideas that can be created out a few things that are lying around the house.  These costumes take a short time to create but will provide a fun evening at the next Halloween party you attend.  If you have been trying to come up with a costume idea for this year’s Halloween event, help is on the way.

The Fortune Teller Costume Idea Is Always A Fun One

A very easy costume idea is the Fortune Teller.  The basics of this costume idea can be completed in under an hour so for a quick costume idea, this would be the one for you.  A long colorful skirt is a necessity, preferably a patchwork quilt pattern or something similar.  Keeping in mind that gypsies were traditionally poor and their clothing would have been sew together from scraps and pieces.  A white blouse, with puffy or long flowing sleeves is best worn with a bright colored vest.  Cover your head with a scarf, tied flat covering your hair and knotted on the side or back of your head.

Accessories Add Believability To The Fortune Tellers Costume

Wear as many bracelets as you can find or borrow.  There are best if they make a clanking or tinkling sound as you move your wrists when telling fortunes.  Lots of necklaces and big hoop earrings add to the quality of the fortune teller’s appearance.

If you have a Magic 8 ball, it makes a great “crystal ball” there is also a new game called Q-20 that provides the same type of game format without the magic eight ball appearance.  You can also create a homemade version of a crystal ball by taking a white Styrofoam ball that can be purchases at any craft store and then spray paint it with a glitter craft paint in a cream or beige color.  The addition of this type of prop makes it fun for you to provide fortunes to other guests.

Costume Hats Are A Great Deal Of Fun Any Time Of The Year

There are many famous costume hats that can be found throughout history, hats that need only be seen to bring to mind the person or thing that made them famous. The Cat In the Hat Wears The Most Famous Of Costume Hats One of the most famous costume hats is the tall red and white striped chimney hat worn by Dr. Seuss’s “Cat In The Hat”. In almost every primary school nation-wide on March 2, children all over the country create their own version of the colorful chimney style hat. March is the month of Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the gift of his literature is so important in the educational world. To recognize and celebrate his great contribution to the world of education and to children learning to read all over the country, the first week of March is dedicated to Dr. Seuss and his work. His Costume hat is often given to the younger classes in some schools along with a breakfast of “Green Eggs and Ham”, one of his most famous works. The Court Jester’s Costume Hat Is Famous No Matter The Color Or The Shape Another famous hat is the jester had from medieval times. These famous hats still appear in ski caps, party hats and costume hats for Halloween costumes. There are many popular costume jester hats that are used not only at Halloween but also through the winter. It is not uncommon to see a number of ski boarders and skiers wearing various forms of the jester hats while skiing on mountain slopes in different ski lodges world-wide. Many have competitions; the more extreme the costume hats the better. The Famous Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow Makes A Hat Famous In Little Time In the most recent years a very famous pirate has taken the costume industry by storm and as such, so has his famous costume hat. Captain Jack Sparrow, a character played by Johnny Depp, has given the pirate costume a complete overhaul; most undoubtedly with the brown leather costume hat he wears in the film. This hat is now the “ideal” pirate attire by most children everywhere when playing the make-believe game of pirates. We are a county that has always been influenced by hats, whether it is Jackie O’s famous pillbox hats, Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate hat or the tall chimney pipe red and white striped costume hat of the “Cat in the Hat”.

How to Make a Great Elf Costume

Posted under costume party by Vivienne on Monday 16 July 2007

When it comes to Halloween you can either make or buy your children’s outfits. Buying a costume will cost you more money but will save you a lot of hassle, whereas taking the time to make the costume may be a little more time-consuming on your part but will also save you some money. The decision is entirely up to you. There are so many different Halloween outfits to choose from, and one of the most enjoyable to make or buy is the elf costume.

Buying an Elf Costume

If you have thought about it and decided that you just want to buy your child’s elf costume, then you should know that there are many different places you can go to which offer it. Typical elf costumes include a big shirt or dress, tights and a hat of some sort. Some also come with additional items, such as a belt or a pair of suspenders, for instance.

You can also rent the costume if you would prefer, although a lot of the time you end up spending roughly as much renting a costume as you would if you had have just actually purchased it.

Making an Elf Costume

If, on the other hand, you have decided that you would like to make the elf costume yourself, then for the easiest one you will need a sweatshirt in a red or green color, fabric, a Santa hat, suspenders, decorative tights, and some ribbon. Then the first thing you want to do is decorate the sweatshirt with some glitter and ribbons.

Next you want to add some decorations onto the hat, although instead of using a real Santa hat you can save even more money and make one out of construction paper, if you want. To do this, you need to cut a triangular shape out of some construction paper and then staple or glue it together to make it stick.

Now you want to start dressing your child up. Put the sweatshirt, hat, and tights on them, and put extra glitter and ribbon wherever you feel is necessary. Try to include your child in the actual creation process as much as possible, considering that they are going to be the ones who are actually wearing the costume and so you want to make sure that they like it.

Making your own Halloween costume can be a lot of fun, and so if you are willing and have the available time resources to spend doing it, then it is definitely an option you want to consider, especially if you involve your children in the process.

A Unique Costume Idea Makes Your Halloween Party A Success

Posted under costume party by Vivienne on Monday 9 July 2007

For many the words, “costume party” send chills down their spine and starts a cold sweat but this is a great opportunity to be creative. Thanks to the Internet and many valuable crafting magazines for children and parents, creating unique costumes is often just a bit of research away.

A create and fun idea is to go to a costume party dressed as a bubble bath. This costume is comprised of easy to locate, inexpensive supplies and you could win the prize for the most unique costume.

Minimal Supplies Make A Bubble Bath Costume Easy To Create

The basic requirement for this costume is 35 9-inch round balloons (70 if you want balloons to cover your entire upper body), small safety pins, a white long sleeved sweatshirt or a long sleeved skin colored sweatshirt, white pants and if you choose a rubber ducky, shower cap and a scrubbing brush or other tub style accessory.

After locating all the accessories for your costume, you really don’t have anything more to do for preparation until the day of the party. As the party time draws near, you will want to blow up all of the balloons. Allow enough time for this activity, as these balloons are the key component of your costume.

Once the balloons are all blown up, use the tiny safety pins to attach each of the balloons to the shirt at the low-knotted end of the balloon. Make sure that the entire surface of the front of the shirt is covered with balloons. Many people choose not to put balloons on the backside of the shirt so that they can sit down while wearing the costume. I personally bought double to balloons and covered the entire shirt, front and back. I then transported my costume top to the party and put it on over a tank top when I arrived.

The finishing touches include a shower cap or towel tied around your head, a scrubbing brush and a rubber ducky. You can attach the rubber ducky to one of the balloons with a piece of tape or carry it with you. If you want additional props, wear slippers or flip-flops and carry an oversized bath towel.

Don’t be surprised if you are the only bubble bath at the party. This unique Halloween idea is almost always a prize winner for the most original costume. A word of warning, as the party get rowdier, your costume will become the most likely to get popped.

Throw a Great Costume Party

Posted under costume party by Vivienne on Monday 9 April 2007

Whether it is Halloween or any other time of the year, if you want to throw a great costume party there are a few things you want to take into consideration.  If you are planning on inviting a lot of people, you want to make sure that your party is going to go over perfectly.

Planning the Party

The first step to any good party is the planning process. Figure out how many people you want to invite, where you are going to have the party, what catering you need, whether there will be games, and whether there is somewhere that you are planning on moving the party to later on in the night.

Send out invitations to all the people you want to come to your costume party and ask them to RSVP. This way you can get at least a remotely accurate number of guests, in order to be able to plan better.

Getting Ready

The next step is to actually start preparing and setting up for the costume party. If you are holding it in your home, for instance, then you will want to decorate the house with ribbons, glitter, balloons, whatever you like.

If there is a specific theme to the costume party, such as ‘the 80’s or ‘famous people’, for instance, then you are obviously going to want to decorate somewhat around that. For instance for an 80s party you may want to include things such as life size posters of Madonna or Bruce Springsteen, while a famous people costume party would not be complete without beautiful chandeliers and fake video cameras.

Staying With Your Budget

Making a budget out for the party beforehand is crucial and you want to make sure that you stick to that budget as best as you can. After all, of course you want to throw a great party that everyone will love and remember, but at the same time you do not want to go overboard and spend more than you have to, especially considering that it is only for one night.

Have fun, enjoy yourself, and invite family members and friends so that you can be around the ones that you love.

Shimmy!

Fancy dress parties let you dress up and be someone else for a while. Choosing the outfit that will feature a new persona can take some thought and discovering what will work best for you. It’s fun to be someone different for an evening. What about a 1920’s flapper, a nun or a belly dancer ?

Making your own costume for a party can really showcase your own personality. These choices flapper, belly dance costume and the nun are all fun and fairly simple to re-create. The costumes themselves are usually very comfortable and can be worn again.

Flapper, Nun And Belly Dance Costume

With these choices, an easy outfit can be created. Check out the local hobby or craft store. Finding some patterns for costumes will tell you what may be needed in the creation of the costume.

If you can sew, you have everything you need to create the best flapper, nun or belly dance costume.

The flapper is of course the roaring 20’s party girl. A short, straight dress that is not too tight is the perfect choice for a flapper. Long, beaded necklaces can are added, along with a feathered headband and maybe some long gloves. This flapper costume is easy and quickly put together.

The nun costume may possibly be the easiest. A one piece black tunic is needed. Black material with white across the front is used for the head covering. Make sure to cover all of the hair. Again, a store that carries patterns will have a picture of this simple costume to show you the look that needs to be achieved.

The belly dance costume involves a little more creativity. Finding a pattern to follow is probably the best choice. The top of a belly dance costume is like a bra. This needs to be decorated with sequins or shiny beads. A small vest can be worn over the bra in this belly dance costume. The skirt needs to be below the belly button. There needs to be several layers of skirts in order for the skirt to be flowing for a belly dance costume. A headband across the forehead or a scarf across the lower part of the face completes the belly dance costume.
