You can go out and buy a ninja costume, but what about making it yourself? If this idea scares you, perhaps because you have never made anything like this before or because you are just not that handy or artsy and crafty in general.

There are many costumes that you can make that do not even require sewing or any really difficult tasks, and so anyone can do it regardless of their skill.

Making Your Ninja Costume

For a basic ninja costume one all you will need is a pair of black pants, ten black shirts, and one black t-shirt.

Now comes the fun part, where you actually make the costume. First what you do is take one of the ten shirts and lay it out on a flat surface. Starting from the bottom of the shirt, you want to start folding horizontally upwards. Keep folding until you have something that looks at least somewhat like a think, large headboard.

Then grab the sleeves and pull them around your back, while placing the very middle of the shirt around your stomach. Tie the sleeves off around your back and then tuck all the remaining ends into the belt, so that as an end result it resembles a belt.

Then take another shirt and put it on normally, folding the sleeves back until it looks like a sleeveless shirt, then take the part of the sleeve that is inside out and make it into a sort of triangular shape, as best as you can. Let this part hang loosely over your shoulder, and the actual end of the sleeve should be up by your neck.

Then take the bottom part of the shirt and pull it over your head, so that it is on the back of your neck, but make sure that you keep your arms through the sleeves, so that you should end up having something that at least remotely resembles a vest around your arms.

The next step to making your ninja costume is to take yet another shirt and make a ninja hood out of it. Then you want to take another shirt and place it on your upper thigh, making sure that the collar is pointing towards your navel at an angle. Take a final shirt and do the same to your lower legs. Also do the same for your upper and lower arms, and voila, you are done.

Cleopatra is always a popular costume for Halloween parties.  It is a very easy costume to create at home and can be recreated to be very sexy if that is the wish of the wearer.

Creating Your Own Cleopatra Costume In One Afternoon

The basic requirements for a Cleopatra costume include a white sheet or long dress, a sash or cloth belt of some sort, gold costume jewelry and a long dark wig with straight hair.

While a white dress is an ideal for your Cleopatra costume, you could use a white sheet instead.  With creative folding, cutting and arranging, a sheet can be worn in a classic Egyptian looking style.  If you are unsure, do an online search or look in an encyclopedia or art history book to locate images of the Egyptian culture or Cleopatra herself for an idea of what the dress or sheet should look like.

The scarf or sash worn around the waist should be very decorative, keeping in mind that Cleopatra was extremely wealthy and her clothing would have been made of the finest and most decorative cloth.  Whatever you decide to use doesn’t have to be expensive, just decorative.

Finding The Correct Accessories Is The Key To Success

The jewelry of Cleopatra’s time was generally made of gold and had images of the serpent in or upon it.  Keep this in mind as you try to select the items you will be wearing.  Again, a bit of research and a visit to your local dollar stores and party stores should provide many different inexpensive options for the costume jewelry you will be wearing.

Cleopatra wore a jeweled headband.  If you are unable to locate something in a thrift store, be sure to pick something up at a party or costume store, as this is a very important part of the overall Cleopatra costume.

The hair is a very important in the overall appearance of the Cleopatra costume.  If you have long straight hair, they you need only brush it out straight and put on the headband.  However, if your hair is short, long and curly or something else that contrasts with the overall appearance of your Cleopatra costume, you might need to wear a wig.

Beauty and The Beast

Posted under Uncategorized by Vivienne on Monday 7 May 2007

When a couple is going to a Halloween party it can be difficult to come up with a couple’s costume that hasn’t been overdone at a party.  Beauty and The Beast is a popular kid’s  cartoon and a great idea for a couple’s costume.  So, if you have your heart set on you and your mate dressing up in Beauty and the Beast costumes, here are some simple ideas to help you reach that goal.

Beauty And The Beast Costumes Can Be Created In An Afternoon

Beauty’s costume can be created very easily out of a yellow or beige colored prom dress.   Of course, the more true to the actual cartoon figure the better but it really is open to personal preference and what is available in the prom dress selection at your local vintage, consignment or resale stores.  Costume wigs are available if you want to have hair that resembles the long curly locks of Belle and costume jewelry should be subtle and elegant.  If you have matching long opera gloves, those would be an elegant addition to the overall appearance of the Belle costume.

The Beast Costume, A Bit More Challenging Than Beauty

Beast is an easy costume that will use some of the clothing he already owns.  To create the beast part of the costume, you will need to purchase fake fur, double sided tape, cloth tape, a knit stocking cap, dark cotton work gloves and a rubber wolf or dog nose at your local party store.  He will also need a long sleeve shirt, tie, blue jeans, dark socks or tights and shoes from his own wardrobe.

To make the wolf’s hood, you will cut the fake fur to fit the stocking cap and use the cloth tape to attach the fur to the hood, make sure to cut a hole in the fur piece that would cover the head for his head to slip through.  Create small triangular shapes for the ears and attach to the fake fur by way of cloth tape.

For the wolf’s feet, cut two identical wolf track shapes complete with pointed toes.  Use his  shoes to cut the length and then add and inch margin all the way around when cutting out.  Cut a large “X” in the fake fur and punch two shoelace holes in front of the “X”, have the Best put his foot through the “X” and into his shoe, then lace the shoelaces up through the fake fur and you have just created the “beast” feet.

The tail is a simple project, cut a short long piece of fake fur and form it into a tail, attach the sides with the double stick tape and then tape to the backside of his jeans.  Put the beast hood on his head, put his rubber nose in place and you have an instant Beast to attend the ball with Belle.
